WACUP (which can be pronounced as wakeup or wac-up or however you prefer it in your native tongue) is my vision of what a media player should be whilst still being compatible with the plug-ins for some of the most popular media players that you are used to. My plan is to include bug fixes, updates of existing features & most importantly new features with the goal to eventually become its own highly compatible media player.

WACUP is heavily based around a plug-in system making it simple to tailor you WACUP install to be what you want it to be. When its finally out of being a preview build an SDK will eventually be offered so new plug-ins can then be made to add additional features.

Core Features & Highlights
• Wide Audio Format Support: Plays MP3, FLAC, OGG, MIDI, WAV, M4A, OPUS, and native Shorten (SHN) file playback via the in_shnobi input plug-in.
• Legacy Plug-in Compatibility: Supports classic Winamp plug-ins, skins, and visualizers, with recent updates allowing visualization handling across skinned transparent windows.
• Internet Radio & Streaming:
○ Support for Shoutcast and Icecast stream title updates.
○ Integration with the laut.fm internet radio provider.
○ Artwork retrieval for SCv2 DNAS streams.
○ Cleaned-up internet radio listings with broken stream removal and categorized station grouping.
• Playback & Audio Enhancements:
○ Optional precise volume control with configurable Shift-key activation.
○ Audio panning and balance level display.
○ Initial loopback audio capture to drive visualizations from external playback sources.
○ Improved gapless playback handling for MP4 files.
• Library, Playlists & Metadata:
○ Enhanced "Remove Missing" commands to clean up missing files from main and library playlists.
○ Dedicated removal report logging for duplicate and missing playlist tracks.
○ Improved online lyrics handling (supporting left-, right-, and center-aligned text) and more reliable metadata-less or URL-encoded track searches.
○ Updated podcast information pane utilizing the system's WebView2 engine.
• Modern & Portable Architecture:
○ Available in 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) preview builds.
○ Supports portable installation modes and crash reporting improvements with startup crash detection and Windows Error Reporting dump collection.
○ Album art lookups via SACAD v3 on 64-bit Windows 10 and later.

Changes in WACUP 1.99.56.25346 – 23 Oktober 2026

• Changed the crash reporter dialog to now show the version along with using crash instead of error to make things more cohesive including the preference page (i.e. error reporting becomes crash reports)

• Changed how some of the artwork loading is done when the raw data is requested which should better handle misnamed files so it's not purely relying on the file extension (this was seen with some CD artwork look-ups not getting the expected jpeg result which meant the file was wrongly named as being a jpeg when in the scenario found it was a png)

• Fixed an odd crash seen early on in loading whilst trying to obtain one of the default menu strings when that can instead be pulled from the stringtable resource only when needed (aka running less code)

• Fixed a crash when attempting to remove artwork from a CD entry due to the handling incorrectly handling the non-url form of CD entries when the in_cdda plug-in had already dealt with things along with not double-checking that taglib is able to be loaded for the action (the handling shouldn't have failed on that but if the OS is blocking it from loading as was likely the case then this also avoids that)

• Fixed more problems reported related to the prior atf optimisation changes from build 25130 which could break the shown output for null / empty string inputs along with $replace getting stuck in a loop

• Fixed a regression which broke how the core was handling a check made by the WMC & BBM modern skins to see if they're running under WACUP to help adjust some of the branding elements shown within them

• Updated lzma (lzma.dll) to 26.05 (21 Oct 2026)

• Updated openh264 (in_mp4.dll) to 2.7.0 (22 Oct 2026)
